What is what is a C license?
A class C license is a commercial driving licence (CDL). This licence allows drivers to operate vehicles that have a gross vehicle rating (GVWR) limit of 26,000 pounds. This includes passenger vehicles such as vans, buses, and trucks. It also allows drivers to drive vehicles that are used for the transportation of certain hazardous materials, so long as they have proper endorsements.

The handbook outlines the specific rules and driving skills truck drivers must be aware of. You can purchase the handbook either online or at DriveTest or ServiceOntario centers or in the majority of book stores.
After passing the written test you can take the driving test. You may be required to pass a variety of driving tests, depending on what kind of vehicle you intend to drive. You can find the full list of available tests on the MTO website.

How do I get my C license?
To get a C license you must be over 18 and have passed a driver's medical. You must also have an all-inclusive license (category A) and pass the test for the C license. The test can be completed either online or in driving schools. It is recommended that you study and practice driving with a friend prior to taking the test. After passing the test you will receive a certificate issued and you'll also receive a driver's license.
If you're younger than 18, you can apply for a C+E permit, but you will have to get your legal guardian or parent to sign a declaration that they are willing to let you drive a large vehicle for transporting goods. You must first be able to pass the C driving test and possess an B category driving license before you can apply for a C+E. You can then start training through HGV driving schools in order to acquire the necessary skills to drive an articulated truck. The courses are typically seven days long and cover all the fundamentals of driving an articulated vehicle. You will also learn about the laws of driving in health and safety, as well as how to prepare a lorry before hitting the road.
